About The Brownwood Amateur Radio Club
The Brownwood Amateur Radio Club (BARC) is a central-Texas-based amateur ("ham") radio organization. It is a non-profit 501(c)(3) group that offers its resources of volunteer communications to local and area communities. It also fosters interest in emergency communications and amateur radio.
BARC also works closely with local community service groups including the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and REACT. BARC offers assistance to the National Weather Service during severe weather, and provides volunteers when called upon by city and county officials during emergencies and disasters. BARC also has a workstation at the local Emergency Operations Center, located in the Brown County Law Enforcement Center.
Meetings are normally the third Monday of each month at 1900 local time at the Red Cross building. Once a quarter an "Eating Meeting" is held where the club joins in fellowship over a meal at a local eatery.
BARC has established itself as a strong community-oriented group, dedicated to helping fellow citizens in time of need. BARC participates in ARES as a portion of District 3 North Texas Amateur Radio Emergency Service.
The BARC meets every third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. local time at the American Red Cross building, 600 E. Adams, Brownwood, TX. See map by clicking here.
